Specializations

Specializations, Part Two: Reward Tracks & Elite Specialization | GuildWars2.com.

Well I’m fairly excited about the new specializations feature of Heart of Thorns. It looks much more stream lined and easier to select between each specialization tier. I really like the sleek new UI for it (reminds me of Diablo II skill choices 😀 ). I missed that UI experience and really appreciate Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns (HoT) will be adding a similar feature. For those of us who are not uber stat/trait/skill build designers it  makes near effortless build designs. By that I mean I will not need to spend hours reading wiki info or constantly swapping back and forth over my traits then my skills to see how the build works.

It’s all right in one panel for next to brainless build designs 😀 Now THAT is  a useful system! After all I want to spend my time either earning my next Specialization/Skill unlock, leveling, or playing. Not reverse engineering those systems to have fun 😉 . Change a tier mouse over the skill see if its what you are looking for. It truly follows the K.I.S.S. method for build designs. I can’t express how much this new specialization system is awesome!

Read on to find out how we’re refining trait lines and profession customization!

Okay, sure, they have adapted another PvP system into PvE. But honestly! I Like it! It was a great idea to take the PvP Reward Track system and apply it to the Professions, how awesome is that? It goes along with the Personal Story and Living World achievement systems also. You do a block of leveling, say complete Queesdale, boom you get map completions rewards & Hero Points (or HP, as I am sure it will be called down the road. Hey wait do we know another HP? 😉 )to spend for new skins, skills and specializations 😀 Sweet right!?

They did remove stats from the traits / skills and I am honestly not sure how I feel about that. If it makes building a character easier then great, I’m all in. Hopefully it will make my choices of armor / weapon stats much simpler also. I want to get in have fun, explore, defeat some foes, level up and get loot :D.

I only hope we are grandfathered for those of us who have already unlocked all the skills and traits. That way we can start working on our new Elite Specializations.

Update!

According to the Twitch (Ready Up: Specializations AMA) channel video today. These changes will be coming out before Heart of Thorns! Only the Elite Specializations will be coming out in Heart of Thorns.

The Story So Far: Heart (of Thorns) Beats

The Story So Far: Heart (of Thorns) Beats | GuildWars2.com.

Finally some more new about Heart of Thorns! 😀 I was hoping for some Guild Hall info, but alas that is not to be today 🙁

In any case, this is a good read for a synopsis of Living World Season 1 & 2 bringing us to the entrance of the expansion. Picking us up (well, those who have participated in Living World Season 1& 2 story, not just achievements ) where we left off.  With the Ominous Portent video, we learn that Faolain is our next likely villain or at least a prominent foe in stories to come. We also found that Mursaat are returning and possibly becoming an ally. Understandable given the whooop’n we gave them in Guild Wars 😀 Rytlock returns from his venture into the Mists and Canach apparently joins our guild in the battle against Mordremoth’s army.

Have a read, check out the video and see you on the next post…

Be sure to watch the next Points Of Interest (POI) episode Friday at Noon PST with a Bog Otter pre show and Aurora Peachy post show.

Stress Tests

Emails Out!

March 24th, 2015 at noon marked the first of a series of stress tests for the expansion Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns. Shortly after the forum shown signs of life as testers started posting comments. There were a few screen shots posted I had not seen yet and many we have. Over all I would say it was a usual response for a stress test. And as usual it seems the players were more stressed than the servers LOLZ 😀 I can admit to a bit of that myself 😉 Over the last few weeks we have heard plenty about the new profession: Revenant, read about our adversary the Wyvern, OO’d and AAAH’d at the new Borederlands maps, watched the videos and read the posts of our new Mastery System, we had new Adventures and events explained as we venture to the Heart of Maguuma, with Specialization we saw new weapons and abilities for our favored characters, and we have yet to hear any news about PvP Stronghold and more importantly (to me) Guild halls!

I am dying to read more about Guild halls! While I am thirsting for more Guild Hall information I can’t help but take note of our fellow guild members who have been lucky enough to have been selected for the beta testing 😀 Our own guild was honored by have one of its members selected 😀

Enjoy the beta, it goes faster than you’d think 😉

Upcoming Heart of Thorns closed beta tests

Upcoming Heart of Thorns closed beta tests | GuildWars2.com.

w00t!

Just WOW! I am so shocked to hear that the closed beta’s are coming up so fast. I figured we would not see beta’s, closed or otherwise, for a couple of months yet.

While I hope I am picked for the closed beta event I encourage Dungeon Adventures Guild Members to sign up! It would be nothing short of fantabulous if we were all selected.

Open Beta testing weekends (BWE’s) for Guild Wars 2 was absolutely a thrill:D Seeing hordes of players rush to the events and far reaches of the world is truly a sight to behold.  Does anyone else recall the Winged Horror consuming the grawl to heal and lay waste to the mass of players. The shouts & pleas for help to be revived, the call for players to come and vanquish the foe still ring in my ears today.

AuroraPeachy: Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns – first story instance

I am ecstatic some one chose to capture the story instance. I am sure many of the other media sources will be mostly focused on the PvP and Stronghold features. As a PvE’r I am most interested in how the story line for the expansion and any Personal Story or Living World Story additions that will be available.

Wyvern

Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns ~ Wyvern

In Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns we have been shown a creature that should strike fear into the hearts of all us D&D to Guild Wars 2 players! A distant relative to the dragon It has been seen in every edition of Dungeons & Dragons from the original series books, the orange bound Gary_Gygax (Gary Gygax Memorial Fund) 3rd edition, 3.5, 4th edition and I am sure it will reappear as a classic in the 5th edition of Dungeons & Dragons.

It huge size four attacks including a bite, poison sting, wing gusts, and claws it was a formidable opponent. Wyverns could easily demolish a small or medium group of players who where ill prepared. Combined with the ability to fly out of the reach of its attackers reach and flyby attacks large groups found it to be a level based challenge that would down a player or two from the group before its defeat.

Wyvern3

As old school table top D&D players, Guild Wars, or Guild Wars 2 players we are sure to have our fare share of losses and party wipes battling this Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns ~ Wyvern. With it’s wing gusts, flyby / raise attacks, and small battle area we are sure to have a rough time achieving victory over this foe.

Biome

Welcome to the jungle!

Biomes are Guild Wars 2 Heart of Thorns new map features. They are said to have three elevations. The Canopy, the core or floor / ground level, and subterranean. We have seen some of this in Drytop and Silverwastes.  But is this totally new? To table top RPG’s we know this as Dragonchess, a game of chess that uses air, ground, and subterranean board pieces. Is it new to mmorpg’s? Maybe not (truthfully I have not played them all to know)? But will it be new on the scale of Guild Wars 2? YES! Will it be totally awesome? YES!

As a I played Guild Wars 2 BWE’s I enjoyed the jumping ability that guild wars did not have. But while just jumping around was fun, what was best of the jump? Yup, you guessed it, Hang time! The length of the fall….Weeeeeeeee. I recall map chat when I would proclaim AAAAAAAAIRBOOOOOOOOORNE! followed by a jump….some hang time…then SPLAT! Many in chat would wonder what I was yelling about, after explaining it often I would start groups of lemming leaps where we would all jump off cliffs, castle walls, mountains, or anything we could find. Heart of Thorns will prove to be very rewarding for the airborne trooper enjoying the hang time.  But I digress.

The Canopy

  • PAX Announcement

Looking up is not done in Guild Wars, and in Guild Wars 2 because of the additional ambiance of the environment I find myself looking up even more. Now in Guild War 2: Heart of Thorns with Canopy level play area’s I am guessing the views will be far more spectacular than ever before in Guild Wars.

With airship hulks, arboreal species, dragons flying (some of that could be seen in Guild Wars 2 also, in Arrah) and swooping down on players. The sky is literally the limit! We’ve seen in Guild Wars  some of the “arboreal species” living quarters, but were never able to get close to them much less enter them. I have a feeling with Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns we will not only be able to get up close and personal with the inhabitants, but actually enter their homes. The story lines that will undoubtedly come with Heart of Thorns has a at least four possibilities. There are the Heket, we might have even seen them in the PAX Announcement video. Obviously the Harpy, maybe they inhabit the jungle as well as Ascalon. Frogmen (Cousins of the heket), another possibility of what was in the PAX Announcement video. And lets not forget our favorite! Tengu 😀

 Ground Level

  • PAX Announcement

This is the area we are all used to. We spend endless ours walking / running / jumping around killing what ever comes our way. In Guild Wars they did have some pretty awesome views and landscape. I always liked Maguuma Jungle more because of the lush vegetation and a sense of being in a forest. Guild Wars 2 stepped it up a couple notches  with Metrica Province, Caladon Forest, and Kessex Hills (pre Toxic invasion). You could really get the sense of being in a forest or jungle.  In some areas you might have noticed the trees swaying to the wind as the rain hammered down on the leaves.

In Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns it looks like they have raised the bar a few more notches. With new features we will apparently literally cut / burn our way through the Maguuma Jungle.  Gone will be the days of just walking / running / jumping around the flat landscape. In the Jungle, now we will need to traverse winding paths, treacherous slopes, and even use the foliage to reach exclusive areas.

Subterranean

While not a new game feature, the method Guild Wars 2 and Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns uses to engulf the player down below the surface is quite unique. You really get the feeling of holding a torch in your hand as you pass from daylight into the depths of Tyria. As a table top rpg player I really enjoy this aspect. While you mostly encounter this affect at the beginning of jumping puzzles it can be found in a number of small caves found around Tyria.

Revenant

RitualistThe return of the Ritualist!?

Guild Wars 2 new profession the Revenant.  I had always wondered why we only had two heavy professions and assumed they would add more later. I am happy to find out they did 😀

According to Colin Johanson at the Official Heart of Thorns Announcement PAX South, Colin said the Revenant has the “ability to channel and control the powers of the mists” and “channels the great legends of guild wars past”. Now we (those who have played Guild Wars) know there was another character who had this channeling ability, the ability to Channel Magic! It was also a character who symbolically wore a blindfold or veil. Can we say Ritualist?

Personally I am ecstatic they are adding a new heavy profession. On one of the character slot sales I bought a spare for just such the occasion. Now I can finally use it. I even have the tomes to get them to 80 right off!  My only hope is that it will have the same or similar weapon selection as the Warrior or Guardian.

I am curious about the various legends that we will be able to channel. I really like that they included King Jalis Ironhammer and Mallyx the Unyielding. I think it was a great idea to have them change the skills used when channeled. I can imagine a giant ghostly blue hammer smashing down on my enemy engulfing them in a luminescent blue flame! I hope that they include Glint, Ventari, or Celestial Dragon….and a favorite of mine ~ Freezie! I can see it now, a huge vortex of ice shredding my foe…sweet.

In any case I can’t wait to create my new Revenant character…..

Guild Hall

GW2HoT_01-2015_Guild_Halls_Concept

A place to hang our banners, fly our flags, partake of alcohol | food | games and …..?

I am exited about the ability to provide our guild members with a place to call home 😀 I m hoping that guild halls will be non-instanced, a place to park our  characters, and move to and from it and other cities. It will be interesting to see how the “build your guild hall” will play out.

Will our guild need to complete events before we can begin construction? How many merits or influence will it cost? Is it going to be like Silverwastes where we will need to escort our supply caravans? Do we need to protect supply officers and gather rubble to help build it? Will they have world impact by having emplacements to help protect the area? Will we be able to build an Asuran Gate to travel between cities and/or other map areas? What are these “host events” Colin spoke of having in the guild hall? Is he hinting we will be able to start events other than the current guild world events?

So many questions so few answers… 🙁DnD_Banner
